Commercial only — what is excluded

Loading Dock Installation requests are routed only for commercial and industrial facilities. The following are not routed through this line: Residential garage doors, Home garage door springs, Home garage door openers, Boat docks and marina docks, Lake docks and floating docks, Dock construction over water, Waterfront dock structures, DIY parts-only requests, Storefront glass, Automatic pedestrian doors, Residential handyman work, Automotive glass or sliding doors.

How a loading dock installation request is handled

  1. Project intake. Facility name and address, the number of dock positions, the equipment involved, whether the project is new equipment or a replacement, photos of each position, and your target timeframe are captured.
  2. Site and equipment review. An accepting independent provider reviews dock height, pit or dock-face conditions, existing equipment, power, trailer mix, and site access, and may arrange a site visit to confirm equipment fit and project scope.
  3. Proposal and scheduling. The provider presents a proposal covering the equipment, work scope, pricing, and any removal of existing equipment. Installation is scheduled after you approve it; timing depends on equipment availability and is confirmed by the provider.

New Dock Equipment and Replacement Projects

Installation requests cover dock equipment at new or existing dock positions: adding levelers or restraints, replacing worn-out units, or upgrading several positions at once. The provider reviews each position before confirming what can be installed and how the work is scoped.

This line handles equipment installation only. Concrete dock construction, dock pit excavation, structural or building alterations, waterfront docks, equipment manufacturing and parts-only sales are outside its scope.

  • Dock levelers for new or existing pits and dock faces
  • Replacement of levelers, restraints, seals or shelters
  • Restraints added to positions that do not have one
  • Seals or shelters fitted to new or replacement doors
  • Upgrades across several dock positions
  • Projects combining several types of dock equipment

Dock Levelers, Vehicle Restraints, Seals and Shelters

Most dock installation projects involve one or more of these equipment families. Note what you have now and what you want; the provider confirms model fit for the position and the trailers you receive.

Dock levelers

Hydraulic, mechanical, air-powered, vertical-storing and edge-of-dock levelers. The choice depends on the pit or dock face, the capacity needed, trailer heights, and temperature or sealing requirements.

Vehicle restraints and dock locks

Manual, automatic and hydraulic restraints that mount on the dock face or drive approach or store in the pit. Compatibility with trailer rear impact guards and the dock's communication lights is reviewed.

Dock seals and dock shelters

Foam seals, head-curtain seals, foam-sided shelters and rigid-frame shelters. Door opening size, trailer mix and how often trailers are serviced help decide between a seal and a shelter.

Rail Car Ramp Leveler Option

Facilities with a rail siding may ask about a hydraulic rail car ramp leveler, which bridges the dock and a rail car door. It is a specialty option: include the rail position and car types in the request, and the provider reviews the dock and track layout before confirming whether a project fits.

Replacing or Upgrading Equipment at an Existing Dock

Replacement is a project assessment rather than an automatic outcome. The provider looks at the condition and age of the current unit, its capacity, the pit or mounting conditions, parts availability and recurring failures, then confirms whether a repair, a component upgrade or a full replacement fits.

If existing equipment needs to come out, removal is agreed in the provider's proposal. If a unit is down or unsafe right now, request repair first.

Site Details for an Installation Proposal

Having these details ready helps the provider review the project before a site visit:

  • Number of dock positions and their door openings
  • Dock height and pit or dock-face dimensions, if known
  • Trailer types and heights the dock serves
  • Existing equipment brand, model and capacity labels
  • Power available at each position
  • Photos of each position from inside and outside
  • Preferred project window, shift and access restrictions
  • Insurance, COI or vendor onboarding requirements
